Relationships and Sex Education
Vision
Our Federation creates a nurturing environment, which promotes positive mental health and well-being and celebrates equality and diversity. RSE is more than a stand-alone subject – it is an extension of the ethos and values that a school has. Our RSE curriculum aims to build children's ability to welcome the future with confidence and become purposeful, responsible citizens of their community. It involves acquiring information, developing skills and forming positive beliefs, values and attitudes. RSE has a key part to play in the personal, social, moral and spiritual development of young people.
Our Curriculum
RSE Intent
- Help pupils aspire to be the best they can be, to have aspirations for their future and know what is required to reach them
- Provide opportunities for our pupils to learn about rights and responsibilities and to know what it means to be a valuable member of a diverse society. We will help them to understand and consider the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up in Modern Britain
- Deepen our pupils’ understanding of the fundamental British values of democracy, individual liberty, the rule of law and mutual respect and tolerance
- Develop their sense of self-worth by playing a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community
- Stimulate, nurture and challenge their spiritual, moral, social and cultural curiosity
- Help pupils to understand the importance of their physical and mental health, understand emotions and feelings and have strategies to help them become resilient and confident so that they are ready for their transition to their next school
- Help pupils to have a good understanding of themselves, to have empathy, an ability to work with others and to form and maintain positive relationships treating everyone equally with tolerance and respect
- Teach our pupils’ age-appropriate understanding of healthy relationships through our structured programme of RSE
- Teach our pupils about personal safety (online and off) and we will ensure pupils know when and how to get help if needed
- Encourage all of our pupils to be the very best versions of themselves
RSE Implementation
RSE is taught through our clear and comprehensive RSE curriculum. We promote positive values and attitudes throughout every aspect of school life.
We teach RSE through discussion led lessons, where children are encouraged to take an active role. Our curriculum is underpinned by the principle that everyone is valued and has a place in our community. We provide a friendly and inclusive environment where quality r relationships are important. We value and respect individuals. We share an ‘open mind’ ethos towards our RSE teaching, our minds are always open to new experiences and we prepare children for the challenges and opportunities of adulthood in a changing world. Through our embedded RSE curriculum we aspire to develop lively, enquiring, imaginative and creative minds; children that show respect, sensitivity and humility throughout their education and beyond.
RSE Impact
Our aim for our RSE curriculum is to develop children’s skills so that they are able to:
