Governors

 

The governing body has a range of duties and powers and a general responsibility for the conduct of the school with a view to promoting high standards of educational achievement. Its responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • setting targets for pupil achievement
  • managing the school’s finances
  • making sure the curriculum is balanced and broadly based
  • appointing staff
  • reviewing staff performance and pay.

Members of the governing body serve for up to four years in one of the following roles:

Parent Governors have at least one child attending the school when they join the governing body. When there are more nominations than vacancies they are elected by parents of pupils at the school.
LA Governors are appointed by the Local Authority, Reading Borough Council.
Teacher Governors are elected by the teaching staff from amongst themselves.
Staff Governor is elected by the non-teaching staff from amongst themselves.
Community Governors are chosen by the other governors to help them in their work.
